Measure the handle body as well as the visible face. The pocket must clear internal profile webs, glazing, reinforcement and the moving panel. Verify finger access without allowing the handle to strike the adjacent sash or frame.
Compared with surface-mounted replacement handles, a flush design is more dependent on the cutout and internal profile. A similar faceplate can conceal a different body depth or lock connection.
Document the latch or hook type, engagement direction, operating travel and keeper position. The handle should lock without forcing the sash out of alignment. Replacement projects also need the existing cutout, mounting centers and keeper offset, not only a photograph of the old handle.
An old cutout may be enlarged, off-center or hidden by an oversized faceplate. Screw holes can also be worn or placed over a thin profile wall. Check whether the new handle covers the opening while retaining adequate support. Do not assume that matching mounting centers alone proves replacement fit.
