Multipoint Door Lock: OEM Buyer Specification Guide
Allen Wang | CEO and Founder, HIPAD Updated: September 24, 2026
A multipoint door lock links a central gearbox to two or more locking locations along the door edge. OEM approval must align door thickness, faceplate, gearbox, rods, locking points, handle, cylinder and keeps as one system.
Define the gearbox, faceplate and locking interfaces together.
Published application range
HIPAD’s supplied reference lists multipoint locks for 40-80 mm entrance doors. This family-level range does not mean one lock fits every thickness or profile. The selected model still needs a dimensioned drawing and installed sample.

Map the gearbox and rods
Start with the door-edge preparation and central gearbox position. Record the backset, handle-to-cylinder centers, spindle section and faceplate. Then define the rod or extension connections and the exact location of every hook, bolt, roller or other locking element.
Compared with a single-point replacement lock, a multipoint system adds cumulative tolerance along the full door height. A small error at each connection can prevent all points from reaching their keeps at the same time.
Use a full-height drawing to control locking-point positions.
Match handles, cylinders and keeps
Confirm handle spindle engagement, fixing centers and clearance around the gearbox. State the cylinder type, length and cam requirement. For each keep, document the frame profile, offset, fixing support and required engagement. The keeps should secure the door without forcing it out of alignment.
Six steps before OEM sampling
Freeze the finished door and frame profiles.
Mark the gearbox, faceplate and machining dimensions.
List every locking point, connection and keep position.
Confirm handle, spindle and cylinder interfaces.
Install the complete system on a production-intent door and frame.
Approve operation, finish, packaging and inspection criteria.
Edge case: door movement under load
A sample can operate on a bench yet bind after the door is glazed, clad or installed. Check engagement with the finished door weight, seals and frame tolerances. Adjustment may help alignment, but it cannot correct an incompatible gearbox or incorrectly positioned keeps.
Test all locking points on the finished door and frame.
Material, finish and quotation evidence
The source library identifies steel/zinc-alloy and brass/steel options across related lock families, but it does not disclose a universal product certificate number, security grade, price or MOQ for every multipoint model. Request model-specific material, finish, cycle, load or security evidence where the project requires it.
HIPAD describes OEM/ODM support for dimensions, structures, finishes, logos, molds and packaging. Tooling, MOQ, price and lead time require a project quotation.
FAQ
What door thickness does the published range cover?
The supplied reference lists multipoint locks for 40-80 mm entrance doors. Exact fit depends on the selected model and door profile.
Can I select a lock from backset alone?
No. Also define centers, follower, faceplate, locking-point layout, connections, handle, cylinder and keeps.
Should all locking points engage at once?
The installed system should reach the model’s intended engagement without excessive force. Verify this on the finished door and frame.
Can HIPAD customize the layout?
HIPAD supports drawing-based OEM/ODM review. Feasibility depends on the door system, quantities, tooling and performance requirements.
